Dear Parishioners of St. Helen of the Cross

Since July 2019, I have been entrusted the care of this parish community. The most important responsibility of the pastor is to move people closer to the Word of God and to the Sacraments; primarily in the Eucharist, where the Word becomes Flesh and dwells among us (cf. Jn 1:14).

In order to better fulfill the Office of Pastor, the Church calls some members of the Christian Faithful to collaborate with me. Besides those who assist in the ministries of the Church, there are representation in the Pastoral Council.

Though moving people closer to our Lord is my primary concern, the pastor is also entrusted to represent the parish in all juridic affairs…he is to see that the goods of the parish are administered in accord with both civic and ecclesial laws, (cf. c. 532).

To complement our parish perspective, I have decided to appoint Mary Lou Martinez, Richard Cariño, Samantha Alvarez, Jesse Gonzalez, Nadra Ferguson, Jose Muñiz, and Luis Alvarado to the Pastoral Council. Although the council acts only in an advisory capacity, I believe that their input will provide me with valuable insight into the community.

These new positions seeks to assist us in our efforts to implement the results of the synod on the new evangelization in a congruent manner that will enable us to address the current parish growth and future planning in developments.

I ask for your prayers and support for all newly appointed pastoral Council members, that as they take on this new responsibility, we will work together in “Restoring all things in Christ” (Eph. 1:10).

I remain yours in Christ Jesus,

Rev. Marco Carrasco

Priest of Jesus Christ

Pastor

As the Exaltation of Cross feast day approaches, I would like for all of us to reflect in the Cross. Christ embraced the cross, he did not ignore it nor reject it. He embraced it and by accepting the Cross, He brought the Glory of the Resurrection to us all. The Cross, brothers and sisters, is the Instrument Jesus Christ chose to carry. We, who through Baptism are buried in the death of Christ and in His life, must also choose to carry the Cross. Carrying the Cross will not only be for ourselves but for our loved ones, our family, our community, our faith, our society and for souls whom God Loves so much. We must remember, there is no triumph without the Cross and there is no real authenticity in the meaning and joyful life if there is not a Cross in our life. The World tells, be happy without sacrifice! But our faith tells us joyfulness is obtained through sacrifice, mercy, and a closeness to Our Lord, being as close to Him as the wood of the Cross was close to Jesus Christ. Let us celebrate and exalt our crosses. Let's carry them until it is time for us to hand them over to Our Lord, Himself. For we can never separate Christ’s life from the cross or the cross from Christ. Come join us as we celebrate the Lord and enjoy the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross . Yours In Christ, Fr. Marco Carrasco

Our Lady’s 15 Promises to Those Who Pray Her Rosary 1. Whosoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces. 2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary. 3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin and defeat heresies. 4. It will cause good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire for Eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means! 5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish. 6. Whosoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of Eternal Life. 7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church. 8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the Light of God and the plenitude of His Graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the Merits of the Saints in Paradise. 9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary. 10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of Glory in Heaven. 11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by recitation of the Rosary. 12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities. 13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death. 14. All who recite the Rosary are my Sons, and brothers of my Only Son Jesus Christ. 15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination. It is amazing to realize how much grace and heavenly help we can receive by an act so simple as praying the Rosary regularly. It only takes 15 minutes to pray! Set aside time alone, with your family, or with some friends to start the habit of reciting a daily Rosary. Or join your fellow parishioners for Holy Rosary service prayed weekly before each Mass.

The COVID-19 pandemic has altered our behavior likely forever. The new normal is taking root throughout the world and is being manifested in a variety of ways. Throughout the Diocese of Tucson, parishes are coping with the new normal requiring face masks, social distancing and sanitation initiatives to keep their parishioners reasonably safe from the scourge of the coronavirus. But no pandemic was going to prevent 8-year-old Isabella Grace Da Silva from receiving her First Holy Communion at St. Helen of the Cross Church. Isabella came prepared with a custom face mask made by a family friend embroidered with the words “God Bless Isabella Grace 6/13/20.” “It wasn’t what I had expected. I didn’t mind wearing a face mask. Wearing a face mask is important. But I had to sit by myself because of social distancing. It was still the best day ever because I got to receive Jesus’ body for the first time,” said Isabella. “Children, as adults, are coping with the new normal,” said the Rev. Marco Carrasco, pastor at St. Helen of the Cross. “We are committed to bringing the word of God whether it is at Sunday Mass, a baptism, wedding ceremony, funeral or any of the sacraments in a way that is as normal as possible.”
